Carnation Revolution: 50 years ago, Portugal rose up for democracy


On April 25, 1974, due to endless colonial wars, young captains of the Portuguese army overthrew the dictatorship which had locked down the country since the time of Salazar. Democracy is making a comeback. But this 50th anniversary coincides with the electoral rise of the hard right.
