BNXT playoffs: Liège takes a step towards the semi-finals despite an incredible comeback from Spirou (VIDEO)

In their absence, Sam Rotsaert had decided to entrust the role of game distributor to Quinten Smout. A role to which the young Belgian, generally used as a pure shooter in position 2, was no longer accustomed. This was felt on the pitch because the sniper seemed less comfortable finishing (3 out of 11).

Tyrell Roberts on fire

Despite this, Charleroi managed to hold on to the Liégeois during a pretty crazy match. After a competitive first half (40-41), the visitors took a lead of up to 17 points at the start of the last quarter before Spirou made an incredible comeback before finally losing in overtime (93- 98).

If the Carolos believed in the feat, they owed it in large part to a fiery Tyrell Roberts. The American full-back, who had two rather poor matches since his return from injury – he had been absent for 6 weeks due to a knee problem -, brought his scoring qualities to the fore again. Coming off the bench, he finished the match with… 47 points on the clock (8 out of 11 behind the 3-point line)! Enough to turn the Liège defense upside down and ignite the low attendance at the Dôme this Wednesday evening.

Cork dominates the indoor game

To get through this, Liège Basket once again allowed its offensive qualities to express itself by showing itself to be dominant in the interior game. The Hagins-Anosike-Tumba trio imposed their physical strength in the paint (42 points and 22 rebounds in total). Facing them, Nathan Kuta, the robust Dutch pivot from Spirou, had one of the most difficult evenings of his season (4 points, 2 rebounds and 5 fouls).

The Liégeois were also able to count on the composure of Angel Rodriguez. The Puerto Rican leader, author of 25 points and 7 assists, allowed his team to keep his team's head above water at the height of the storm at the end of the 4th quarter, despite the close guard of David Collins.
