Best Trickster Build in DD2

Dragon’s Dogma 2 by Capcom offers a wide range of opportunities for players to experience the long-awaited sequel with a number of different playstyles through their 10 distinctly different vocations. While some of these character classes will need to be unlocked throughout the game, they all bring something different and unique to the table, which can usher in an entirely new experience, depending on which vocation is equipped.

The most unusual and unorthodox of the character classes in DD2 is the Trickster, which more or less avoids combat where they can. This may sound unusual or counterproductive to some action-RPG enthusiasts, but the right build with this vocation can be just as effective as any other. In this guide, we’ll provide you with some tips on how to use the Trickster, as well as the best build, skills, and augments to use with this character class.

How To Play As A Trickster in DD2

Dragon's Dogma 2 Trickster Delusory Screen

The Trickster vocation is one of the advanced vocations that players can discover and unlock in Dragon’s Dogma 2, and is perhaps the one that most needs an experienced hand to properly master. Unlike the other nine vocations and, generally, the majority of character classes in the action RPG genre, the Trickster is a support class and will generally avoid combat at all costs. This is evident in the fact that the Trickster is basically incapable of causing direct damage.

Being a supporting member of a team is unorthodox for a game where you are the center of the story and combat focus, but, when utilized properly, the skills of the Trickster can be really satisfying to witness in Dragon’s Dogma 2. Players using this vocation will be looking to distract enemies with a plethora of illusions and decoys to expose their foes to the offensive skills of their party of Pawns.

To play as a Trickster, players will want to prioritize using magic skills to attract the attention of adversaries, so they may be picked off by their companions. Not only this, but players using this character class will also be capable of providing boosts to their comrades to make combat far easier to win.

Despite not being a damage-dealing vocation, the Trickster still has an array of skills up their sleeve to protect themselves, confuse their opponents, and swing a battle in their favor so their Pawns can dish out the punishment on adversaries. Here are the weapon skills you unlock when equipping the Trickster vocation.

Weapon Skill

Requirements

Illusive Divider

  • Rank 2 + 300 Discipline Points
  • Rank 4 + 1,000 Discipline Points

Latching Effigy

Binding Effigy

Espial Incense

Visitant Aura

  • Rank 4 + 700 Discipline Points
  • Rank 6 + 1,600 Discipline Points

Sweeping Shroud

Suffocating Shroud

  • Rank 1 + 100 Discipline Points
  • Rank 4 + 1,000 Discipline Points

Fickle Floor

Tricky Terrace

  • Rank 5 + 1,100 Discipline Points
  • Rank 7 + 2,500 Discipline Points

Aromatic Rally

Aromatic Resurgence

  • Rank 3 + 450 Discipline Points
  • Rank 5 + 1,300 Discipline Points

Of the weapon skills available for the Trickster, the most effective are the Fickle Floor and Aromatic Rally. As the vocation name suggests, the Trickster thrives in being able to confuse the enemy. So much so, that some illusions and tricks can eventually lead enemies to walk into their own demise, which is what happens with the Fickle Floor skill.

Players using the Fickle Floor skill will conjure a false floor over a gap, which enemies will fall through when they step on it. Positioning this in strategic areas like over a cliff or across a broken bridge will likely result in enemies falling to their death at the hands of the Brine. Players should be wary, however, as they cannot walk over it themselves either.

When this isn’t a viable option, the Aromatic Rally should be a player’s go-to skill, as it greatly boosts the offensive potential of any ally that comes into contact with the Trickster’s red smoke. It is worth noting that this will cause the Arisen to slowly lose their health, but it can be counteracted with curatives or a Pawn with curing abilities.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is filled to the brim with an abundance of quests. This guide will show you what they are, both compulsory and optional.

Best Trickster Augments in DD2

Dragons Dogma 2 Trickster Clone

Unlocking the Trickster vocation will grant players a number of additional Augments that look to complement the abilities of the class and the builds players will generally gravitate toward. Here are the Trickster’s Augments, listed from least to most valuable for Trickster builds.

Allure

The Affinity system in Dragon’s Dogma 2 can raise as many questions as it answers, as players are able to develop relationships with the various NPCs scattered throughout the world for unique benefits. Depending on who you rub shoulders with, you can receive discounts in stores or even gifts from characters, but it’s not always easy to determine how well you’re bonding with a character and what their gift preferences are.

However, the telling point that you’ve got the affection of the NPC is in their cheeks, which will blush red when they approve of you. If you’re on the market for cheaper wares or any specific bonus that an NPC can grant you, then Allure is certainly worth looking at. With that said, you can get by pretty well without being close with a lot of NPCs, so this is very much a “take it or leave it” type of boost.

Detection

While quite a few of the augments that come from the Trickster aren’t necessarily related to improving stats or combat efficiency, that’s not to say that they aren’t valuable for Dragon’s Dogma 2 players. Detection is one of those skills that, while it won’t help you in battle, it’ll help you in the long run with healing yourself or NPCs and collecting the rewards associated with acquiring Seeker Tokens.

Detection is a useful guide for players on the hunt for Wakestones and Seeker Tokens, but it can be a little frustrating to follow. This augment won’t give you any physical indicators as to the direction the item is in, but will alert you if you are getting closer with an increase in sounds and blinking lights, but it will only account for distance. If you are dealing with multi-level areas or clusters of buildings with closed areas, it can get irritating trying to locate the item. Instead, players can make use of Dragon’s Gaze to narrow down the location of Wakestones.

Enlightenment

Weight management is among one of the most difficult aspects of Dragon’s Dogma 2, as failing to equally distribute the weight of items can greatly hinder your agility and stamina retention. This, however, is not likely to be an issue for Tricksters, as the character class was not designed with heavy weapons and armor in mind. As such, you can use the extra storage space to hang on to more consumables to increase survivability.

The Enlightenment Augment leans right into this vocational advantage, and gives players a chance of doubling any merging of two items to create a resulting product. This is a particularly useful skill to have, as items like potions can be expensive, and it never hurts to have an extra one on hand in case of a particularly challenging combat encounter.

Fugacity

While a convenient mode of transport between two locations, players often find themselves having to defend an ambush when traveling via oxcart. While these are generally manageable and the Arisen is likely to come out of it alive, there is a constant risk that the cart could be destroyed, or the ox or driver be killed, which means players will need to complete their journey on foot. This is an immensely frustrating circumstance, so the Fugacity Augment may help not just Tricksters, but all vocations in Dragon’s Dogma 2.

The Fugacity Augment reduces the chances of players being attacked while on board an oxcart. This is perfect for the Trickster build as it means you’re less likely to need to defend yourself and there’s no chance of losing the oxcart. Not only this, but arriving in one piece is a time-saver, which is the whole reason most players use the cart in the first place.

Obfuscation

The Trickster is somewhat of an odd one out in Dragon’s Dogma 2, as players seeking violence and hard-hitting combat are not going to thrive with this vocation. It is designed to play more of a supporting role, so avoiding conflict is somewhat of a priority for players with such a build.

The Obfuscation Augment helps players to steer clear of combat by decreasing the chance that a hostile NPC will target the player, provided they are not in a battle stance (meaning their weapon is not out). While it can be risky to be in the presence of a hostile character without a weapon in hand, it may be well worth the gamble if it means avoiding triggering a group of enemies engaging in combat.
