Best Early Game Stowaways In Another Crab’s Treasure

Highlights

  • Finding the right combo of Stowaways in Another Crab’s Treasure is crucial for building strong character builds at close range.
  • Increase Stowaway Capacity with Nemma or Polli’s help to equip powerful boosters like Sea Star for more Vitality benefits in combat.
  • Stowaways like Lamprey offer unique gameplay strategies, enhancing survivability and melee attacks for a riskier playstyle.

In Another Crab’s Treasure, Stowaways serve as versatile equippable items that players can swap out at will. Stowaways carry passive bonuses, either as flat stat increases or as modifiers to combat mechanics (sometimes both). Finding and equipping the right combination of Stowaways is key to fleshing out builds.

Another Crab’s Treasure: How Long to Beat

Another Crab’s Treasure will take players longer than they think to complete Kril’s underwater adventure to claim his shell.

To equip Stowaways, players will need to have sufficient Stowaway Capacity. Luckily, Stowaway Capacity can be increased easily by talking to Nemma (or Polli) at the Bottomfeeders in New Carcinia.

7 Sea Star

Best for Health

Effect

+3 VIT

Requirement

Price

1500

Vitality is always useful in Another Crab’s Treasure, particularly in the first half of the game, when players must engage bosses at close range and have limited long-range attack options.

More VIT gives Kril a little breathing room for mistakes. By itself, Sea Star may not seem like much, but lots of other Stowaways and abilities rely on having a certain amount of health to be effective, making it a safe, easy choice to recommend if nothing better is available.

6 Barnacle

Best for Defense

Effect

+10 DEF

Requirement

Price

1250

Barnacle increases Kril’s defenses by a whopping +10. Not only that but it’s available super early, making it one of the very first Stowaway players will get access to right from the start of the game. And, it’ll stay relevant well into the mid-game.

The Defense stat primarily comes from the shells players find and equip. Shells found in the first few areas of the game typically give anywhere from +10 to +70 DEF. Having Barnacle equipped encourages players to try out the high-risk, high-reward Shells with powerful spells but low DEF to compensate.

5 Used Bandage

Best for Healing

Effect

15% Increased Healing Effectiveness

Requirement

4 RES

Price

5000

Used Bandage allows players to get a lot more mileage out of every Heartkelp that they consume mid-battle. While 15% more healing may not feel like a lot at first glance, this is percentage-based healing; it goes up the more Vitality Kril has.

These Another Crab’s Treasure combat tips will help players learn the game’s unique approach to the Soulslike formula.

Combined with VIT increasing Stowaways like Sea Star or even just directly investing into VIT during levels ups drastically increases this Stowaway’s effectiveness. It shines the most when used with a bulky, Melee-focused build but it can work with anything. Note that the increased healing effectiveness applies not only when using heartkelp but with all healing abilities.

4 Lamprey

Best for Survivability

Effect

3% Health Drain

Requirement

28 Attack

Price

2000

If players want to go all in on a melee build early, Lamprey is a must-have Stowaway to get early, perhaps even insure. It allows for a riskier playstyle that sees Kril draining enemy health with every hit.

Like the Used Bandage, this is also percentage-based healing that gets more effective the more Vitality the player has. 28 Attack may feel like a steep requirement, but it can easily be achieved by investing only in Melee for ten level-ups.

3 Whelk+

Best for MSG Builds

Effect

+30% Shell Spell Damage

Requirement

7 RES

Price

2000

Whelk+ is hands down the best Stowaway for Magic builds early in the game. The straight +30% boost to spell damage is massive for a magic build, and it’ll become more useful the more the player leans into Shell spells.

The early sections of Another Crab’s Treasure heavily encourage Melee gameplay over ranged, as most shell spells that deal appreciable damage are costly to keep up. Even with Whelk+, which will make spells deal a lot more damage, players will need to go with a hybrid melee/magic approach. Going full magic is just not on the table.

2 Sinker

Best for Melee Builds

Effect

Attacks deal +20% Balance Damage

Requirement

21 Attack

Price

1750

Sinker is especially useful against enemies with large health bars. Most bosses don’t let the player stay in close range for more than two or three swings. Bosses like Queen Mystra and the Royal Shellsplitter are a pain to deal with because the only safe way to deal damage to them is by playing the waiting game.

Another Crab’s Treasure Dev Promises ‘Weird’ Optional Bosses

In a Game Rant interview, one Aggro Crab developer talks about the ‘weird’ optional bosses players can encounter in Another Crab’s Treasure.

Players will typically only be able to get a boss’s stagger meter to fill up by playing perfectly and capitalizing on every single opportunity. Otherwise, the stagger bar will drop to nothing in no time. Sinker’s +20% balance damage means each swing of Kril’s weapon adds an additional 20% to the Stagger meter.

1 Fruit Sticker

Best Overall

Effect

Increases Microplastic Rewards

Requirement

Price

7500

Microplastics are the end all be all of trade in Another Crab’s Treasure. Everything from level-ups to new outfits to stowaways to weapon upgrades are only possible if Kril has a wallet full of Microplastics to match.

The Fruit Sticker can be bought from the Bottomfeeders for 7500 Microplastics. A hefty investment to be sure, especially for the early game but a useful one. If obtained right from the start of the game, this Stowaway will allow players to snowball their reserve by increasing the amount of Microplastics they gain per kill. The Fruit Sticker will pay itself back in no time.
