Belgians abroad: Aston Villa and Tielemans advance to semi-final after penalties

The Mastiffs opened the scoring with their first shot on target from Yusuf Yazici, who started following the absence of Edon Zegrova, injured in the ankle (15th, 1-0). Lille still had several good balls poorly exploited by Benjamin André (30th) and Tiago Santos (41st). Despite their 63% possession of the ball, Aston Villa did not lead much and did not shoot once on goal in the first half.

Lille resumed in the same pattern except that Matty Cash, found in the area by John McGinn, missed the equalizer (58th). In the process, LOSC regained possession of the ball and on a corner from Hakon Arnar Haraldsson, André widened the gap with a header (68th, 2-0). From that moment, Lucas Chevalier was called upon and after deflecting a shot from Cash (82nd), the northern goalkeeper lost to a strike from the Polish striker (87th, 2-1). Headed to extra time where Chevalier allowed Lille to reach, in vain, the penalty shootout.
