Baldur’s Gate 3 Previews the Game’s Next Big Update

Highlights

  • Patch #7 for Baldur’s Gate 3 introduces improved evil endings and official modding tools, enhancing player experience and game longevity.
  • Larian Studios continues to refine the game with technical fixes, improving character interactions and addressing narrative inconsistencies.
  • While major DLCs or story expansions are not planned, upcoming features such as Crossplay and a Photo Mode are in development for the future.

Baldur’s Gate 3 has revealed a first look at what players can expect from Patch #7, and the key additions happen to be improved evil endings, as well as the launch of the game’s official modding tools. Despite releasing in a stacked year defined by several major titles, Baldur’s Gate 3 made history by winning Game of the Year at every major awards show. It brought the isometric RPG genre to a mainstream audience, and succeeded in living up to the tremendous legacy of Baldur’s Gate 2.

However, Larian Studios did not rest on its laurels, and continued refining the lackluster elements of the game. With Patch #5, the developers famously provided an epilogue to Baldur’s Gate 3, while Patch #6 improved on character romance content. By contrast, Patch #7 is meant to be the other side of the coin compared to Patch #5, and it will introduce several new scenes for players who finished an evil playthrough of Baldur’s Gate 3. These new epilogue scenes will account for both regular characters and the Dark Urge, featuring new music composed by Borislav Slavov, the award-winning composer of Baldur’s Gate 3 and Divinity: Original Sin 2.

A popular Baldur’s Gate 3 mod contains some Act 3 dialogue options that makes some players believe a beloved NPC was designed to be a companion.

The highlights of Patch #7 were posted on Steam by Larian Studios, and it also features a message of eternal gratitude to fans, both newcomers and Early Access veterans. While the enhanced evil endings are indisputably the highlight of Patch #7, the new Baldur’s Gate 3 update also brings something that will ensure the game’s longevity for many years to come: official modding tools. While the modding community for Baldur’s Gate 3 was already thriving, the official tools will make it easier for players to overhaul the game into a tailor-made experience.

Patch #7 will also bring a laundry list of technical fixes to the game. Jaheira will no longer randomly jump into combat, and Wyll’s conversation greetings to characters who are romancing him will also be improved. Furthermore, the Narrator will no longer disappear in pivotal scenes, such as during the confrontation between the Dark Urge and Gortash in the third Act of Baldur’s Gate 3.

Beyond Patch #7, Larian Studios has announced that the developers are working to bring Crossplay and a Photo Mode to Baldur’s Gate 3. However, it may still be some time until those features come to the Sword Coast. While Baldur’s Gate 3 will not have any major DLCs or story expansions, nor will it have a sequel helmed by Larian Studios, the developers have already begun work on two new projects, and Larian can’t wait to unveil its upcoming games to the public in the (hopefully near) future.
