Apex Legends Players Have Discovered a Mysterious Nessie Easter Egg

Highlights

  • Nessie Easter Egg hints at new content in Apex Legends Season 21.
  • The mysterious discovery may point to a new Apex Legends hero.
  • Fan-favorite plushie has deep lore ties across Respawn’s games.

An Apex Legends player has found yet another Easter Egg featuring everyone’s favorite adorable plushie, Nessie. The mysterious monster could hint at new content coming in Season 21 of Apex Legends.

Nessie has been a long-running Easter Egg in Respawn Entertainment’s video games over the last decade. The miniature plesiosaur first appeared in the original Titanfall, after the developers embraced a fan’s comment that a blurry image of one of the game’s maps resembled Scotland’s fabled Loch Ness Monster. Since then, Nessie has made all manner of appearances, and Respawn Entertainment has also begun to develop Nessie’s place in the lore of Apex Legends and Titanfall’s shared universe. Many of the plushies hidden throughout the free-to-play battle royale were canonically Wattson’s childhood toys, relics of her upbringing in King’s Canyon. Nessie continues to crop up in unexpected places, and even makes regular appearances in Apex Legends’ April Fool’s events.

From gigantic hidden sea monsters to unique victory podium takeovers, Nessie has appeared in many different forms in Apex Legends. However, one Apex Legends player has just found a seemingly new Nessie Easter Egg, which offers more questions than answers. Creator @kralrindo Tweeted their mysterious discovery of a new Nessie hidden in the game’s Firing Range, easily missed behind the map’s spawn point. When picked up, the oversized plushie bears the puzzling description: “It’s Nessie? A strange Nessie. It doesn’t appear to be of this world.”

What Could this Hidden Nessie Mean for Apex Legends?

Possibly this implies that Nessie could be an interplanetary traveler, but more likely it has arrived from a parallel world. However, the mystery deepens further as the player throws it through one of Wraith’s dimensional rift portals. From the other side emerges not Nessie but a small collectible tile that appears to be a tile from the Chinese board game Mahjong. Players have speculated that this could be a reference to Alter, the rift-wielding new character heading to Apex Legends in Season 21, as leaked data suggests they may be of Chinese heritage.

Intrigued fans can soon expect an answer to this enigma as Season 21 of Apex Legends will begin on May 7, giving players access to a brand-new map and 110 Tier Battle Pass along with the new legend. Luckily, players do not have to wait until then for new content, as April 23 marks the beginning of the Urban Assault event in Apex Legends. Fans can jump back into the fan-favorite Three Strikes game type and climb the leaderboards in the new competitive Apex Rumble mode as they work towards unlocking a host of limited-time cosmetics, including Octane’s “Apex Riptide” Prestige Skin.
