Advanced Warfare is a Best Case Scenario for Sledgehammer Games

Highlights

  • Advanced Warfare brought a fresh and thrilling look into the future of war, setting it apart in the Call of Duty franchise.
  • The game’s unique setting in 2054-2061 provided a new perspective, making it one of the best games in the series.
  • With rumors of a Gulf War-based Black Ops game, a return to the future could inject new life into the franchise.

Call of Duty has been in need of something exciting and fresh, and giving developer Sledgehammer the reins with another Advanced Warfare game could be the perfect recipe for success. The Call of Duty franchise is filled with games that explore different eras of war, but Advanced Warfare offered a thrilling look into the future, and the series is really in need of a return to this approach.

Released back in 2014, Advanced Warfare took what makes Call of Duty great and launched it far off into the future. Set between the years of 2054 and 2061, Advanced Warfare was one of the first times Call of Duty stepped outside the parameters set by current or previous wars and thought of something entirely new, thanks to some brilliant development from Sledgehammer. To this day, Advanced Warfare is a memorable entry in the long-running first-person shooter series, and giving Sledgehammer a chance at another chapter is sorely needed.

A Call of Duty leak brings good news for gamers, and indicates that a crossover with Fallout and other well-known names could be on the way.

It’s a Perfect Time to Bring Advanced Warfare Back

Call of Duty has succeeded at showcasing some of the most historically significant wars in human history, but they have been done time and time again. From World War 2 to games inspired by modern-day conflicts, these periods of time have been featured plenty, and it’s time for something new. There are already plenty of rumors suggesting that the next Black Ops game will be based on the Gulf War, but looking to the future is the key to breathing some new life into the franchise.

A Unique Call of Duty Entry

It’s been far too long since Call of Duty speculated on the future of war. Sledgehammer brought to life one of the most unique entries in the entirety of Call of Duty‘s history, and it’s confusing as to why the spin-off hasn’t been revisited. With such great reviews and a fresh idea, Sledgehammer’s first attempt at making its own Call of Duty game turned out to be a huge hit. It’s arguably one of the best games to be featured in the franchise, which makes the choice not to craft another one mind-boggling.

Now, with Battlefield making its own futuristic attempt with Battlefield 2042, a new Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare could create some great competition. Battlefield 2042 hasn’t managed to hit the same notes that Advanced Warfare did, which makes the absence of a new installment feel even larger.

Call of Duty Needs to Stop Recycling Itself

In its current state, Call of Duty hasn’t been pushing boundaries like it should. Since Advanced Warfare, Sledgehammer has continued to work on other Call of Duty games, like Vanguard and Modern Warfare 3, but they unfortunately haven’t compared to Advanced Warfare. The World War 2 era has overstayed its welcome, and Modern Warfare 3 didn’t really bring anything new to the table, but a new Advanced Warfare is full of potential for Sledgehammer to let its creativity shine once more.

The Call of Duty franchise has had many ups and downs as of late, but a change of pace can hopefully turn that around. Sledgehammer has proved once before that it
