“Is it really logical for a company to hire a pregnant lawyer (to defend itself)?” asked the President of the Paris Commercial Court a few days ago in the press, after a lawyer, 8 and a half months pregnant, lost her water and had an epileptic attack during a a hearing she should never have been present at but was forced to attend because the court refused to remand her case.
I was initially very angry when I learned that the president of one of the largest commercial courts in France found the idea of choosing a pregnant woman to defend him to be preposterous. It also doesn't matter that she is competent: a pregnant lawyer remains a pregnant lawyer, and therefore, in the eyes of some, a woman incapable of anything.
