As tradition, the 6 hour event will take place this Saturday. With five Belgian drivers at the start, Stoffel Vandoorne (Peugeot) being retained in Berlin for Formula E. But this edition promises to be good all the same, as the Belgian organizer, Renaud Jeanfils of the ICE company, hopes.
Renaud, why is it absolutely necessary to be present this Saturday at Francorchamps for the WEC?
”Because it’s the most beautiful race in the world on the most beautiful circuit in the world. The rehearsal for the 24 Hours of Le Mans with 37 of the cars that will race in Sarthe, fourteen manufacturers and eighteen ex-F1 drivers. We have simply never had a set like this. There is also a Belgian driver at the top of the absolute championship, another in the running for the title in GT3, WRT and Valentino Rossi. And what's more, the weather is going to be nice. We had a crazy race at Imola. We will try to repeat that.”
What is the entrance fee?
”Between 60 and 80 euros per paddock ticket for three days. Free for children under 12 and 50% discount for students.”
The 24 Hours of Le Mans displayed sold out in two weeks. Does this affect your ticket sales?
”It’s difficult to say if the many French people who are joining us will be there because they can no longer go to Le Mans. We broke records in terms of pre-sales. Since Covid, a greater percentage of spectators buy their tickets in advance to no longer have to queue. It should also be noted that our online ticketing will remain active until the day of the race. There will therefore still be a way to purchase your access on the way to join the circuit. We hope to set a new attendance record for the WEC. It's going to be crowded, that's clear. “
What's the best thing that could happen for the race on Saturday? Who would you like to see win?
”Listen, we are in Belgium, we are Belgians and there is a Belgian team with a Belgian driver. They deserve to win. I know WRT is planning a big party for Saturday night. All that remains is to win, but it is, alas, not in my hands. Everyone has their own job!”
