US President Joe Biden on Monday called for a ceasefire when asked about reports that Israel is preparing for a limited ground invasion of Lebanon in what it says is a war it is waging against Hezbollah fighters.
When Biden was asked if he was comfortable with Israel’s plan, he said, “What comforts me is that they stop it.”
The Washington Post quoted an unidentified American official as saying that Israel is planning a limited ground operation in Lebanon that may begin soon.
The official added that the scope of the operation will be smaller than Israel’s war against the Lebanese Hezbollah group in 2006 and will focus on the security of residential communities near the border.
The newspaper explained that Israel informed Washington that it is planning a limited ground operation in Lebanon that may begin in the near future.
