Amidst Tense Atmosphere, Netanyahu Participates in UN General Assembly Meetings in New York

T + T – Normal size

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office announced on Sunday that Netanyahu will once again participate in the United Nations General Assembly meetings to be held in New York this year. Netanyahu is scheduled to arrive in New York on September 24 and return to Israel four days later.

Netanyahu’s visit comes at a time of heightened tensions, with the ongoing war in Gaza expected to overshadow his participation in this year’s meetings. The visit comes amid growing criticism from several UN General Assembly member states of Israeli policies, as well as growing international support for the Palestinians.

Netanyahu has spoken at the UN General Assembly several times, most recently last year.

Last May, the UN General Assembly overwhelmingly adopted a resolution granting Palestine observer status, expanding its participation in international meetings without giving it voting rights.

It will be significant if Netanyahu addresses issues related to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in his speech this year, given the current situation and the humanitarian situation in Gaza, which is a major focus of international criticism.
