Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, in an interview with journalist Pavel Zarubin of the All-Russian State Television and Radio Broadcasting Corporation, stressed that Russian President Vladimir Putin usually takes his time before reacting to Western policies, despite the tough options being considered by Russian experts.
Asked whether it might be time to discuss Russia’s official response to what he called Western aggression, including the supply of long-range missiles to Ukraine, Peskov noted that Russia has enough competent specialists and experts who actively discuss these issues. “I think that’s enough for now,” he added, according to the Russian news agency TASS.
Peskov also mentioned a recent interview with Sergei Karaganov, honorary chairman of the Presidium of the Council for Foreign and Defense Policy, who laid out his well-known position on the use of nuclear weapons as a preemptive measure to intimidate potential enemies of Russia. “We have enough of such discussions, but President Putin is very slow before taking any response,” Peskov stressed.
Peskov’s comments come at a time of growing tension between Russia and the West, with sensitive issues of international security and military strategy being discussed.
