Held under the patronage of Khalid bin Mohammed on 16-18 of this month, the “Utilities Conference” discusses the challenges of the transition towards sustainable energy

The World Utilities Congress has announced the agenda for the third edition of the conference, which is being held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, at ADNEC Abu Dhabi from September 16 to 18.

The conference agenda focuses on global trends and efforts to address the challenges of the transition to sustainable energy sources, in light of the remarkable progress achieved by the UAE in modernizing the electricity grid to increase reliance on renewable energy sources. In line with the directives and commitment of the wise leadership to achieve sustainability goals, the country continues its efforts to address a number of pressing issues, including demand-side management to reduce electricity consumption and achieve water security in arid climates.

The conference will discuss several key topics to benefit from the pivotal role of the utilities sector in the global energy transformation, with the aim of driving progress in vital areas and exploring opportunities to achieve carbon neutrality targets. The conference will be held under the theme “Towards a Safe and Sustainable Future for the Utilities Sector”, with the support of the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, the Department of Energy in Abu Dhabi, the Department of Culture and Tourism in Abu Dhabi, and the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority.

The conference will witness the participation of a group of international speakers in the field of energy, water and district cooling facilities, as the discussions cover a range of important topics, starting from the role of the utilities sector in the global energy transformation and reaching practical discussions on the importance of modernizing the energy grid, managing the demand side, water scarcity and the transition to electricity.

The event will host, over 24 sessions, Jasim Husain Thabet, Group CEO and Managing Director of Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA), Francesco La Camera, Director General of the International Renewable Energy Agency, Luc Raymond, Chairman and CEO of EDF, Fabrizio Fabbri, CEO of Ansaldo Energia, Alistair Phillips-Davies, CEO of SSE, Eng. Khalid Al-Qureshi, CEO of Saudi Water Partnership Company, Izumi Kai, CEO of JERA Asia Private Limited and Head of Platform Business at JERA, and Ben Backwell, Managing Director of the Global Wind Energy Council.

The conference includes four tracks with diverse sessions that bring together perspectives, policies and strategies from around the world, and hosts prominent minds to discuss the latest developments in projects, research, development and innovation. The strategic conference sessions will bring together political, regulatory and strategic perspectives from around the world to identify the most prominent challenges and present pioneering solutions.
