Zelensky announces the return of 49 prisoners from Russia

T + T – Normal size

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Friday the return to Ukraine of 49 prisoners of war who were held by Russia, including those who fought at the Azovstal steel plant that was besieged by the Russian army in Mariupol (southeast) in the spring of 2022.

“49 Ukrainians have returned home,” Zelensky said on Telegram, attaching photos of soldiers, including women, draped in Ukrainian flags. He did not specify whether their release was the result of a swap with Russia.
