(WGHP) — North Carolina was a critical win in former President Donald Trump’s triumphant return campaign for the White House. Yet, while Trump seized the state’s vote for president, Democrats won big in the Council of State.
Democrat Attorney General Josh Stein will carry forward term-limited Gov. Roy Cooper’s torch after defeating Republican Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson for the governor’s mansion.
U.S. House Rep. Jeff Jackson, a Democrat, claimed victory over his Republican colleague in the House, Dan Bishop, in the race for attorney general.
Democrat Rachel Hunt defeated Republican Hal Weatherman for lieutenant governor, and Democrat Mo Green defeated Republican Michele Morrow for state superintendent of public instruction.
So why did North Carolina go red for the nation’s highest office but blue for the state’s?
