What’s on this weekend

What’s on this weekend

There is lots to do and stay busy with this weekend all around the island. From traditional festivals to pop-up markets to large music festivals with an international flair and seaside music under the light of the full moon. If you are looking for something fun to do this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, here’s our pick of the events not to miss.

This weekend unofficially marks the start of market season and as the weather turns colder, more are bound to pop up. A three-day market will feature over 30 artists per day, taking place at the Strovolos Cultural Centre. Apart from Cyprus-made art, the 7th Handmade in Cyprus Market will also have food and drink stands and a kids’ corner to keep all visitors entertained.

Kala Kathoumena will host a Thrift Bazaar this Sunday from 12pm to 8pm, with second-hand clothes, accessories and more, with prices ranging from €5 to €20. Larnaca will also host a Pop Up Bazaar this weekend. Over 25 local sellers and creators will showcase and sell their pieces this Saturday from 10am to 5pm at the Larnaka Municipal Market. The bazaar is the first hosted by the venue with the aim of it becomeinga monthly event.

In Protaras, the MoonWalk 2024 – Rising Moon Edition event will host its 2024 event this Friday filling the Pernera-Protaras Promenade with live music. Under the light of the full moon, 132 musicians from all over the island will perform by the seaside on the 31 stages that will be set up. Pedestrians can walk along the coast and stop and listen to live music for free. Organised by Paralimni Youth, this is a highly-anticipated end-of-summer event that usually gathers thousands of visitors. This edition will feature jazz, swing, rock, laiko, rembetiko and Latin sounds.

More music but louder and more upbeat will sound in Limassol as the BEONIX Festival gathers electronic music fans, DJs, artists and performers from Cyprus and beyond. Held on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at ETKO, several stages will play the best of the electronic music scene all night long while art corners and visual effects add to the party mood. A series of after-parties will ensue each night, keeping the party going until late.

Back in Nicosia, a series of festivals and one-day events will take place this weekend. Laou Laou – Car Free Day will take over Ayiou Omologites on Saturday with community and art events, emptying the neighbourhood streets from cars for the day. Meanwhile, from Friday to Sunday, the Pame Kaimakli Festival will present a series of workshops, performances and installations in the old Kaimakli neighbourhood connecting the local community with artists and visitors.

Friday night in the capital city will be a busy one. Choose from street food bites and cocktails at the Fork Food Marketat the Nicosia Municipal Gardens, a free open-air classical music concert by the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra at Eleftheria Square or film screenings as the Queer Wave Festival begins.

And that is not all this weekend has to offer. The 4th Peristerona Ofto Festival will be this Saturday, Xylofagou will proudly host its International Potato Festival on Friday night while Anogyra village will welcome visitors to its 34th Pasteli Festival featuring pasteli products and traditional entertainment.
