Wellness Council invites runners, walkers to Boyertown Turkey Trot

Runners and walkers are invited to kickoff their Thanksgiving Day with some healthy fun.

The 9th Annual Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot 5K Run and 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk will be held at Boyertown Community Park.

Held by the Wellness Council of Boyertown, a program of the Boyertown Area Multi-Service, the Turkey Trot has become a family tradition, that boasted more than 600 participants last year.

“Since many who grew up in the Boyertown area come home for the holidays, it is a great time to reconnect with former classmates, neighbors, and friends,” organizers state in the release.

Awards will be presented to the top overall male and female, the top three winners for multiple age brackets for the 5K race, the largest family and the person who traveled the farthest, plus many giveaways for anyone who pre-registers for the 5K or 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk. Door prizes include gift baskets and gift certificates to downtown Boyertown businesses. All runners will receive a customized participation medal.

Through Oct. 31, the 5K race pre-registration fee is $30 and $20 for children age 12 and under. The 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk is $25 and $20 for children age 12 and under. Register by Oct. 31 to be guaranteed a dry-wick shirt in a preferred size. To pre-register, visit http://www.boyertownareamulti-service.org. After Oct. 31, the 5K race fee is $35, including race day.

Registration and pre-registration check-in on the day of the event starts at 8:15 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 28, at the park located at 417 S. Madison St., Boyertown.

The Wellness Council is also seeking businesses, nonprofits, and individuals to help sponsor this family event. All proceeds will be used to support community health and wellness programs.

Sponsors at the Turkey Dinner $500 level will have their logos printed on the race t-shirts, will be recognized in press releases and on social media and receive four shirts. At the Cranberry Sauce & Stuffing $250 level, sponsors will have their logos placed on the t-shirts and receive two shirts. At the Pumpkin Pie $100 level, sponsors will have their names placed on the t-shirts and receive one shirt. To become a sponsor, visit https://bit.ly/3PJWVEw.

The Wellness Council and Boyertown Area Multi-Service are grateful for the support of all the sponsors and especially want to thank last year’s Turkey Dinner-level sponsors: Pottstown Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Associates, Inc., Pottstown Area Health and Wellness Foundation, Superior Metal Products, Bally Ribbon Mills, and Ryan Homes.

The Boyertown Turkey Trot was started in memory of Clifford Reigner, who was an avid sports enthusiast, athlete and long-time supporter of the Boyertown community and its sports programs. During his high school years, he earned varsity letters in football and track and field. As a supporter of Boyertown sports, he was a member of BAFA, the Victory Mile and the Wellness Council of Boyertown, and he was instrumental in the building of the Boyertown football field and stadium.

Boyertown Area Multi-Service is a social service agency dedicated to meeting needs and improving the lives of people in the Boyertown School District Area and surrounding communities of Amity, District, Hereford, Pike, Pottstown and Oley townships.

An independent, non-profit and member organization of the Boyertown Area United Way and the United Way of Berks County, the mission of Boyertown Area Multi-Service, Inc. is to provide resources and services to meet unfulfilled human and community needs in the greater Boyertown area.

“Boyertown Area Multi-Service, true to its motto, is here to support the community, its people, and their health and financial needs.”
