Researchers at the University of Western Australia said that increased fat in the Abdominal areaIt increases the risk of chronic pain in many parts of the body.
This adds to the list of proven risks associated with the accumulation of Fats Around the waist, including increased risk of disease. Diabetes Type 2, according to the British newspaper, Daily Mail.
In the study, researchers examined health data from more than 32,000 Britons (average age 55), with each participant having an MRI scan of their abdomen to measure the amount of fat around internal organs such as Liver andPancreasmedically known as visceral fat.
The research team also measured the amount of fat just under the skin, and participants were asked to indicate whether they experienced any pain in the neck, shoulder, back, hip, knee, or all over the body.
Two years later, assessments were conducted again on 638 people in the group, and the results revealed that increased abdominal fat was associated with an increased chance of reporting pain, and being overweight with a higher body mass index was associated with a greater chance of pain.
The study found that women who had higher levels of fat around their organs and under the skin were 60 percent more likely to have chronic pain throughout their body. In comparison, men were only 13 percent more likely to have chronic pain.
“Higher levels of adipose tissue were associated with increased odds of reporting chronic pain in both sexes. The distressing effect estimates were relatively larger in women than in men,” the research team said.
He explained that the difference between the sexes may lie in the difference in “fat and hormone distribution.”
Researchers believe that excess fat may lead to inflammation, the process by which the body releases chemicals in response to damage, stimulating an immune response.
