Mooring fees at Larnaca marina are the lowest compared to other commercial marinas in Cyprus, with yacht owners paying up to 60 per cent less for docking, the transport ministry said on Wednesday, however it said it would look into special rates for “vulnerable yacht owners”.
Commenting on the Cyprus Yacht Owners Association’s call on Monday for the immediate return to the previous Larnaca marina fees, the transport ministry said the association was actually calling for the return to fees in place from 2009 to 2022, when the Larnaca marina administration had been assigned to Kition Ocean Holdings Ltd.
The ministry added that when the contract ended, it was decided that these fees remain in place during the transition period until new ones are set.
However, it said it would look into a subsidy system for “certain categories of vulnerable yacht owners”.
“This subsidy will be based on transparent and clearly set criteria, making sure that those who really need it receive support,” it added.
