Volunteers gathered on Friday to clean Kastela beach in Larnaca in anticipation of World Coastal Cleanup Day, celebrated on September 21.

The initiative saw participation from volunteers from the Larnaca municipality information centre, Europe Direct, the European Commission Representation in Cyprus, as well as local students.

In an announcement, the municipality stated: “The cleaning of this beach, located next to the fishing shelter ‘Psarolimano’, was carried out in the context of World Coastal Cleanup Day.” The event was supported by students and teachers from Ayios Lazaros primary school.

“We are pleased and honoured by the fact that the young citizens of Larnaca care about their home and the protection of our seas,” they said.

The municipality also thanked all the institutions for their enormous contribution to all this effort “to keep our environment clean and to remember that as citizens we have a duty and responsibility to keep our coasts clean”.
