US demands Israel provide information on strike that killed UNRWA staff

The agency said six of its staff were killed after two airstrikes hit a school in central Gaza Wednesday.

The agency said in a post on X“This is the highest number of our staff killed in a single incident. Among those killed were the UNRWA shelter manager and others providing assistance to the displaced.”

Dujarric explained that the attack resulted in the killing of at least 18 people, including UNRWA employees, women and children, and that this brings the total number of UNRWA employees killed in the conflict to 220.

“This incident must be investigated independently and thoroughly to ensure accountability,” Dujarric stressed. “The continued failure to provide effective protection to civilians in Gaza is unconscionable.”

For her part, Juliette Toma, Director of Communications and Media at UNRWA On Thursday, Israeli authorities had not asked the agency for a list of the names of staff killed in the attack on the school, while the Israeli military said it had made such a request.

Touma pointed out that “the names that appeared in the Israeli army statement were not previously reported to us by the Israeli authorities before today.”
