United Nations: A quarter of Lebanon is subject to Israeli evacuation orders

These numbers highlight the heavy price that the Lebanese are incurring with the intensification Israel Its campaign to defeat Hezbollah and destroy its infrastructure in the year-long conflict.

Rima Jamous Amsis, Director of UNHCR in the Middle East, said in a press conference in Geneva New Israeli evacuation orders for 20 villages in southern Lebanon mean that more than a quarter of the country is now under evacuation orders.

She added: “People are responding to these orders and fleeing with almost nothing.”

The Lebanese government said: Israeli raids It resulted in the deaths of at least 2,309 people in a year of fighting, and the displacement of more than 1.2 million people.

Most of them have been killed since late September, after Israel expanded its military campaign.

The death toll does not distinguish between civilians and combatants.

Israel said that about 50 Israelis, soldiers and civilians, were killed.

The United Nations is concerned about attacks on peacekeepers

The focus of Israeli military operations is on Lebanon So far, on the Bekaa Valley in the east, the southern suburbs of Beirut, and on the south, where UN peacekeepers said Israeli fire hit their bases several times and wounded soldiers.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said during a visit to a military base in central Israel that was targeted by Hezbollah with a drone on Sunday, killing four soldiers, that Israel will continue to attack the Iran-backed group “mercilessly anywhere in Lebanon, even in Beirut.”

The conflict between Israel and Hezbollah was renewed a year ago when the group launched rockets at Israel in support of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) at the beginning of the Gaza war.
