Unclaimed bodies of British nationals finally buried

The British Cemeteries Committee (BCC) arranged the burial of six British nationals whose remains were never claimed by relatives and had been held for several years in hospital mortuaries in Cyprus.

The BCC is a voluntary organisation tasked with the maintenance of the British cemeteries in Cyprus.

Unfortunately, no relatives of the British nationals were located, resulting in these individuals remaining unburied.

A burial service was held at the Nicosia British cemetery on Kyriakos Matsis avenue on Monday at 3pm.

The committee expressed its gratitude to several organisations and individuals who assisted in this matter, including the consular section of the British High Commission, the Dean of St Paul’s Anglican Cathedral and chairman of the BCC Reverend Jeremy Crocker, and the chairman the of the Cyprus International Services Association (CIFSA) and Cyprus Residents Planning Group (CRPG) St John Coombes.

The deceased were honoured with a graveside Christian committal service led by Reverend Crocker. Following the burial, a headstone was placed on the gravesite, inscribed with the names of the deceased.
