Last May, a World Bank report stated that the poverty rate in Lebanon had more than tripled over the past decade to 44 percent of the total population.
Based on a household survey conducted at the time and covering the governorates of Akkar, Beirut, Bekaa, North Lebanon and most of Mount Lebanon, the report concluded that one in three Lebanese in these areas were affected by poverty in 2022, highlighting the need to strengthen social safety nets and create jobs to help alleviate poverty and address growing inequalities.
