The United Kingdom’s King Charles III called for the “continuation of the cordial cooperation” between his country and Cyprus when he accepted the credentials of Cyprus’ High Commissioner in London Kyriacos Kouros.
Kouros presented his credentials to the King at a ceremony in London’s Buckingham Palace on November 26, and conveyed President Nikos Christodoulides’ best wishes.
He also underlined the “historical relations of friendship and cooperation which link Cyprus and the UK”.
The King welcomed Kouros and his wife to the country and wished him “every success” in his duties.
His warm words for Kouros come after he had hailed Cyprus’ “leadership” in promoting marine conservation in his message to President Nikos Christodoulides on Cyprus’ independence day in October.
“I welcome Cyprus’ leadership on promoting marine conservation, restoration, and sustainable resource management, and further welcome our nations’ shared commitment to tackling these issues and the broader, critical challenge of climate change,” he said.
He also spoke of how he “cherishes” the “close bond shared between our nations”.
Kyriacos Kouros has been Cyprus’ high commissioner in London since April, and is also the country’s permanent representative to the International Maritime Organisation.
Before being appointed as high commissioner, he had served as the foreign ministry’s permanent secretary and as head of Cyprus’ intelligence service, among other roles. He has also served as Cyprus’ ambassador in Beirut and in Amsterdam.
