Two killed in shooting at Wildberries headquarters near Kremlin

T + T – Normal size

Two security guards were killed and three people were injured in a shooting at the headquarters of Russia’s largest online retailer, Wildberries, near the Kremlin..

The police said yesterday evening that thirty people were arrested.. Following the incident, Wildberries founder Tatiana Bakalchuk made serious accusations against her husband, alleging that he tried to seize the company with an armed group..

Bakalchuk reported that armed individuals, led by her husband Vladislav, suddenly arrived at the company’s headquarters. When security guards refused them entry, a struggle broke out, leading to an exchange of gunfire..

For his part, Vladislav Bakalchuk claimed that he had come to negotiate the construction of a warehouse when he and his companions were attacked..

Russian online retailer Wildberries, founded by the Bakalchuk couple in the early 2000s, has since become the largest online retailer in Russia..

The couple’s feud became public in May when Tatiana announced a merger with the advertising agency Rus, with its president, Robert Mirzoyan, appointed general director. The merger was said to have been approved by Russian President Vladimir Putin..

Vladislav Bakalchuk felt marginalized, and received support from Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov, who called the merger a “hostile takeover” and promised assistance..

Due to the ongoing investigation, the police have not officially released information regarding the persons involved in yesterday’s incident..
