Trump spokesperson Steven Cheung to serve as White House communications director

Trump spokesperson Steven Cheung to serve as White House communications director

(The Hill) – Steven Cheung, who has served as a top press aide on the Trump campaign for the past two years, will join the incoming administration as White House communications director, President-elect Trump announced Friday.

While Cheung was not a regular presence on television like some of Trump’s other aides, he has worked with the former president in a communications role for years, having served on Trump’s 2016 and 2020 campaigns.

Cheung also did a stint as a top communications official for The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), a league headed up by Trump ally Dana White. The campaign spokesman is known for his combative presence on social media.

The president-elect has yet to name a press secretary, which is a more forward-facing role in the White House. Campaign national press secretary Karoline Leavitt is widely viewed as the front-runner for that position.

Politico first reported on Cheung’s expected role.

Cheung becomes the latest long-time campaign aide to secure a role in Trump’s White House. Trump announced earlier this week that Dan Scavino, Stephen Miller, James Blair and Taylor Budowich would all take senior staff roles in the White House after playing prominent roles on the campaign trail.
