Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is safe after two people exchanged gunfire outside his Florida golf club on Sunday, the New York Post reported, citing law enforcement sources.
Trump’s campaign had earlier said he was fine after a shooting near his residence but did not provide details.
“Sources say Trump was not in danger,” the newspaper said.
Campaign spokesman Stephen Cheung did not respond to a request for comment.
Two sources familiar with the matter told Reuters that several gunshots were heard near Trump’s golf course in Florida.
The White House said President Joe Biden was briefed on the security incident near Trump’s golf course. The White House said Biden and Harris were “relieved” that Trump was “safe.”
Trump was shot in the ear in an assassination attempt in Pennsylvania on July 13, just months before the Nov. 5 election, which is likely to be a close contest between Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris.
It was the first shooting of a U.S. president or major party presidential candidate in more than four decades, and represented a glaring security lapse that forced Kimberly Shettle to resign as Secret Service director under pressure from members of Congress from both parties.
