TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WFLA) — Trooper, the dog who was rescued by the Florida Highway Patrol during Hurricane Milton now has a new home, the Leon County Humane Society announced.
While the community was evacuating for Hurricane Milton, an FHP trooper found the dog in water up to his chest and tied to a fence on I-75 near Tampa.
According to Leon County Humane Society, adoption applications for Trooper came from all over, but one couple, Frank and Carla, were the perfect fit.
Trooper instantly connected with Frank and Carla, so they decided to see how Trooper would do with their dog Dallas, a 7-year-old Miniature Bull Terrier rescue.
According to the Leon County Humane Society, when Trooper and Dallas met, it was “Love at first sight.”
The humane society shared photos of Trooper and Dallas on Facebook.
“Trooper is a very lucky dog. We hope his story has inspired others to look into and start following animal welfare through their own local shelters and rescues, and to remember that there are 3.3 million dogs entering shelters in the US each year. Some of them have stories even more heartbreaking than Trooper’s, all of them deserve a loving home, and all of them deserve to have humans telling their stories,” The Leon County Humane Society said.
Frank and Carla have had numerous Bull Terriers like Trooper. Dallas has been grieving the loss of her friend Diesel, who passed away at 15 years old in April, according to Leon County Humane Society.
