Dating after the age of 50 is a whole new ballgame these days. This is where sex and relationship educator, Amira Heim aka “Romance Rockstar,” comes in.
On Monday, Nov. 25, she’ll be offering a Speed Dating program at the TriCounty Active Adult Center in Pottstown as part of their monthly “Sex & Dating after 50” series.
“Most of the participants have not had to think about dating for years or even decades, so the thought of getting back out there can be really intimidating, “ said Brian Parkes, executive director of the Center. “A lot has changed.”
Get comfortable talking
The Speed Dating seminar is not necessarily intended to make matches, but to help participants get comfortable talking to potential dates.
“Even those who might not be considering dating again can learn conversation strategies to get to know others better,” Parkes said.
While there is no guarantee you’ll meet a match, regardless of whether you’re single, divorced, or widowed, the speed dating program will offer an easy and entertaining way to meet several people in the same afternoon.
Online dating and healthy relationships
Aside from offering her Speed Dating program, Heim‘s past offerings at the Center’s, ‘Sex & Dating after 50’ series have included topics such as online dating, healthy relationships, identifying scams, sexual health and others.
“During my time working with some of the members of TriCounty Active Adult Center throughout the year, I learned their biggest obstacle was where and how to find new people,” Heim said.
”I’m really hoping this event can be the first step in helping older adults find new ways to get out of their comfort zone and make new connections.”
Three to five minutes
Heim described the way she plans to carry out the program.
“I’m going to have a timer set for three to five minutes, depending on the size of the crowd,” she said “At the start of the event I will set some expectations and offer some tips for “first date” conversations for this event and other situations.”
She will also encourage anyone who feels a connection to consider making arrangements to meet again at TRAAC to continue the conversation.
Monthly program
Heim’s monthly program is on the fourth Monday of every month at 1 p.m. The upcoming speed dating opportunity requires a $5 donation.
For the past 18 years, Heim has been providing, “fun, safe and tasteful sex education for women and couples.” Aside from her offerings at the TriCounty Active Adult Center, she offers home and virtual parties, workshops, speaking engagements and one-on-one consultations.
In addition to their “Sex and Dating after 50” monthly series, TRAAC offers a host of other regular social programs, including book club, genealogy club, choir, bingo, knitting, LGBTQ senior social group, shuffleboard, birthday luncheons, history club, chess club, social hours, and much more.
Speed Dating Opportunity in Pottstown will be held Monday, Nov. 25, at 1 p.m. Donation of $5 is recommended. Contact the TriCounty Active Adult Center for more information and to pre-register at 610-323-5009 or visit www.tricountyaac.org.
