Residents across region are reporting seeing the northern lights Thursday night.
The aurora borealis was expected to be visible over much of the northern half of the country following a solar storm, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The National Weather Service in Mount Holly, New Jersey, had said skies would be clear over our region.
The best viewing conditions were expected between 8 p.m. and midnight, according to the weather service. Those who wish to see the northern lights will need to have an unobstructed view facing north or overhead, away from light pollution.
The northern lights were visible in the area in August as well.
Just after 7 p.m., the weather service’s Mount Holly office shared a photo on X showing the aurora borealis in the sky from their office.
