Traffic shift planned Monday on Route 422 in Lower Pottsgrove Township

LOWER POTTSGROVE — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced that a shift of eastbound Route 422 traffic has been rescheduled until Monday, Sept. 30, due to inclement weather.

The shift will mark the beginning of Stage 2 of PennDOT’s $83.6 million project to reconstruct and improve approximately 2.1 miles of the expressway and replace bridges between the Sanatoga Interchange and Porter Road in Lower Pottsgrove.

Motorists are advised of the following travel restriction: Monday from 9 a.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning, a single-lane pattern will be in place on eastbound U.S. 422 between Keim Street and Evergreen Road (Sanatoga Interchange).

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

When Stage 2 is completed in late 2025, eastbound U.S. 422 traffic will be shifted onto the rebuilt pavement, and westbound traffic will be shifted to the median for the start of westbound reconstruction under Stage 3.

Under this Section M1B project, U.S. 422 will be reconstructed on both existing and revised alignments to improve horizontal curve radii, shoulder widths, and vertical clearance to enhance travel and safety. A culvert at Sprogels Run, located just east of Porter Road, along with an existing single-span bridge carrying U.S. 422 over Porter Road, will be removed and replaced with a new two-span bridge. The bridge carrying U.S. 422 over Sanatoga Road and Sanatoga Creek will also be reconstructed and widened.

For more information on this project and PennDOT’s U.S. 422 reconstruction program, visit the U.S. 422 projects page.

Motorists can check conditions on major roadways by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information, and access to more than 1,000 traffic cameras. 511PA is also available through a smartphone application for iPhone and Android devices, by calling 5-1-1, or by following regional X alerts.
