• The Muslims Are Coming! standup comedy show is set for Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Boscov Theatre at the GoggleWorks Center for the Arts in Reading. Enjoy a night of standup comedy from your favorite Muslim comedians and their friends as they present “The Swing Nation Invasion.” The lineup includes Negin Farsad (“Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me”), Jordan Carlos (“Late Night with Stephen Colbert”), Josh Gondelman (“Last Week Tonight with John Oliver”) and Gibran Saleem (Comedy Central). Gondelman is also a regular on “Wait Wait,” producer/writer of Showtime’s “Desus & Mero” and a long-time writer on “Last Week Tonight.” Saleem completes the lineup and has been featured on Comedy Central and TVLand and has been seen on FX’s “Better Things.” The mission of the show is to bring a diversity of comedians to towns. The event is free, but you must RSVP. For more information, see eventbrite.com/.

• The Reading Philharmonic Orchestra, a group looking to make waves with its music, is set to perform Sunday at 3 p.m. at Brandywine Heights High School. The Reading Philharmonic Orchestra provides an outlet for musicians to share their love of music in performance, to provide a training ground for young musicians aspiring to play professionally, and to keep concerts free and open to the public. The Reading Philharmonic Orchestra was organized in May 1932 by the Reading Recreation Department with H. Augustus Meyer as conductor. In 1962, Wes Fisher became music director, and through his efforts, The Reading Philharmonic Orchestra became an affiliate of The Reading Musical Foundation and was the first group to perform in the outdoor concert series at the Reading Museum. The group continues to be sponsored by the Reading Musical Foundation and starts the museum outdoor concert series on the first Sunday in June.  The orchestra consists of musicians of all ages and experience, and includes one of the original members among its numbers. Students of all ages, teachers and experienced musicians are members. The Brandywine Community Library will have Gertrude Hawk candy bars for sale. Any donations received will be split with the Reading Philharmonic Orchestra and the Brandywine Community Library. It is an ideal setting for students desiring orchestral experience, adult beginners, adults who wish to resume playing and experienced musicians who enjoy playing and serve as mentors and leaders for the group. The repertoire includes a variety of styles from classical to popular. Rehearsals are held every Friday from 7 to 8:45 p.m. from September to June. There are no auditions or fees. There is no ticket price for the concert. For more information, go to readingphilharmonic.com/.
