In a document of approximately thirty pages submitted to federal judge in Washington, Amit Mitta, the US Department of Justice referred to possible “structural” changes, a phrase that many observers see as synonymous with the word “partition.”
The judge himself had convicted Google With anti-competitive practices in managing and promoting its search engine.
During the trial sessions, emphasis was placed on the huge sums paid by Google, a branch of the group Alphabet To ensure that “Google Search” is the exclusive engine for manufacturers of smartphone devices and Internet browsing programs.
The StatCounter website stated that Google controls 90 percent of the global online search market, while this percentage reaches 94 percent via smartphones.
The document published Tuesday is only the preliminary version of the recommendations that the Ministry of Justice will submit to Judge Meta in November.
This first formula included a series of amendment possibilities, including requiring Google to provide the data and programming models used to generate results through its search engine.
The Ministry of Justice is also considering the possibility of asking a judge to prevent Google from using or retaining data that it refuses to share with other companies.
The US government also proposes the possibility of preventing the technology giant from using the Chrome browser, its application store, Google Play Store, and the Android operating system for mobile devices, to give its search engine a preferential advantage.
The Ministry of Justice pointed out that reducing the interconnection between Google’s various products may go through a “structural” change, hinting at the possibility of dividing them.
Google responded in a statement posted on its website, “Separating Chrome and Android will destroy them, along with many other things as well.”
She added that separating them in a forced manner “will change the economic model, raise the cost of devices, and eliminate the ability of Android and Google Play to compete with the iPhone and the App Store.”
As for the possible sharing of research data and results with other parties, the company, headquartered in Mountain View, California, said that this “poses a risk to the protection of your data and safety.”
Google believed that the US government’s recommendations “go beyond the legal issues raised in the file” of the case.
