Tatar link to usurping Greek Cypriot land in north

DND Homes and its subsidiary DND Cyprus, based in Famagusta, currently advertising 622 luxury homes in the north, are being investigated for the usurpation of Greek Cypriot properties.

Disy MP Nikos Georgiou sent a letter to Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos seeking answers, however Kombos replied in confidentiality and the letter was not made public.

Behind DND Homes and DND Cyprus is Turkish Cypriot businessman Ozan Dökmecioğlu, who is closely linked to the north’s leadership.

DND Homes – operating in Boston, Massachusetts – and its subsidiary are promising to bring the quality of America to the north, through the luxury homes expected to be completed by 2026.

Politis reported that the republic’s foreign ministry is aware of the project and is making its own representations.

The authorities are also gathering information to make a case in court and arrest warrants may be issued in the near future against Dökmecioğlu and senior staff of his company.

DND Homes is included in a list of 24 usurpers of Greek Cypriot properties made public by the Cyprus Greens in August.

The company is advertising four projects to be completed over the next two years, concerning 622 homes, including apartments and villas, between the villages of Kazafani, Ayios Epiktitos and Trikomo, at a cost of tens of millions.

The luxury homes are just a few metres away from the beach.

The DND Homes and DND Cyprus website hosts photographs of last year’s New Year party, in which officers and staff welcomed 2024 with a 650-VIP-guest gala in the presence of Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar.

According to the website, Tatar praised Dökmecioğlu for his investments in the north.

Areport in Simerini in May led to Disy MP Nikos Georgiou sending a letter to Kombos informing him that DND Homes planned to develop over 30,000 homes in Lefkoniko, Trikomo, Eptakomi, Ayios Nikolaos and Kyrenia.

This list can be found on the company’s website, which includes a map of the north and the planned projects.

Georgiou called on the foreign minister to inform the House if the government was aware of these plans, what preventive measures would be taken, if representations had been made to the US and if legal action was to be taken against the company.

Kombos replied on June 17 and it reached Georgiou a couple of days ago due to the summer holiday break, however the content of the foreign minister’s letter was not made public as the minister deemed it should remain confidential.

Politis said Georgiou refrained from making any comment due to the confidential nature of the letter.
