Pop-up film screenings are coming to Nicosia and Paphos very soon. The Embassy of Switzerland is screening an entertaining black comedy within the framework of the Weeks of the German Language, on November 18 at Pantheon Theatre and November 24 at Attikon.
Der Bestatter – Der Film (The Undertaker) is directed by Markus Fischer, who presents an innovative sequel to his successful TV series under the same name.
The story is as follows the undertaker as he leaves for his new occupation, running a restaurant in Costa Rica and meets up with his old entourage again after many years at an old hotel on the occasion of Erika Bürgisser’s 70th birthday. The party turns into a nightmare, with unnatural deaths. Now they have to investigate illegally again.
The genre of the ‘hotel film’ has a long-standing tradition. Inspired by films like Murder on the Orient Express, The Grand Budapest Hotel, or Billy Wilder’s The Apartment, Fischer created a suspenseful place where people come together, trapped in the criminal history of a hotel, with surprising twists and turns.
The screenings will be in Swiss-German with English subtitles at the Pantheon Theatre first in cooperation with the Friends of the Cinema Society and at the Attikon Multicultural Space, Paphos in cooperation with Paphos Municipality.
