The Arabic language provides its children with the highest degree of identity. Learning it and then speaking it gives the individual a sense of pride and confidence, as it is the vessel that shapes human taste and contributes to its development. In addition, it helps in the process of building relationships between individuals. If the stages of learning the Arabic language are subject to certain mechanisms, experts agree that learning it at a young age gives children verbal fluency and creative expressive ability.
From this perspective, Emirati student Lamia Al Awadhi, from the Product Design Department at the Strategic Design Department at the Dubai Institute of Design and Innovation, decided to use her graduation project titled “Arabic” to serve this noble goal, by employing modern technology in its teaching and dissemination, so that it becomes a language for the present and the future. She created a smart application accompanied by manual games that take the student on a journey to explore the dynamic relationship between sustainable development and the Arabic language.
Student Al-Awadhi explained that “Arabi” seeks to provide children in school stages, especially the early stages, with the techniques of the Arabic language and to instill it in the souls of the young generation to promote a more sustainable and harmonious future without losing the Emirati cultural identity, in a smooth and beloved style for this age group, combining play and learning.
She added: “The project focuses on researching cultural identity in relation to the mother tongue and curricula offered in Arabic in the UAE, while at the same time assessing the design challenges facing curricula in our society, which is characterised by hosting multiple nationalities and cultures, in which English plays a role as a common global language.”
She pointed out that her project, which she implemented in cooperation with the American Academy for Girls, aims to redesign Arabic language curricula, noting that she organized workshops for children to study their detailed behaviors, which paved the way for positive interaction and enhanced their love for her.
