A spokesman said,CentacomAccording to Sky News Arabia, General Jeffers’ first task is to coordinate with… Lebanese Army To withdraw Hezbollah members beyond the Litani River (29 km) from the border with Israel and place the area under the control of the Lebanese army.

On Friday, the Israeli army announced that it would remain in southern Lebanon, contrary to what was supposed under the cessation of hostilities agreement with Hezbollah.

He said in a statement, “Since the ceasefire agreement entered into force, the Israeli army has continued to be present in southern Lebanon in order to preserve the safety of the State of Israel and its residents.”

After the ceasefire agreement entered into force on Wednesday morning, questions arose about when the Israeli army would begin withdrawing from its positions in southern Lebanon.

According to the terms of the agreement, Israel will gradually withdraw its forces over a period of 60 days, with the Lebanese army controlling the lands near the border with Israel, to ensure that Hezbollah does not build its infrastructure there again.

The agreement stipulates that the military presence in the south be limited to the Lebanese army and United Nations peacekeeping forces, and that Hezbollah withdraw with its weapons until north of the Litani River, located about 30 kilometers from the border.

American sources expected that the Israeli withdrawal would begin as soon as the agreement entered into force, which did not happen.

An American source told the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth on Wednesday that the Israeli army’s withdrawal from southern Lebanon may begin on the same day the agreement enters into force.

The source explained: “The withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanon will be gradual, and may begin on Wednesday under heavy air cover.”

He added: “This will also include removing dozens of Israeli flags that were placed by Israeli army soldiers on the positions they seized on Lebanese territory.”
