Gazprom confirmed that gas flows to Austria remain halted on Sunday, but total daily supplies through Ukraine, the main route for transporting Russian gas to the European Union, will remain at 42.4 million cubic meters, which is approximately the same volume for every two days over the past year.
Austria was receiving 17 million cubic meters before supplies were cut off, and now these quantities are finding new buyers in Europe.
At its highest levels ever, Russia was supplying Europe with about 35 percent of its gas needs, but since the start of the war in Ukraine in 2022, Vazprom has lost market share to Norway, the United States and Qatar.
The company’s remaining flows to Europe may not last long with the closure of the Soviet-era pipeline through Ukraine at the end of this year, as Kiev does not want to extend the transit agreement.
