Rescue operation set up to save woman stranded on cliff

A young woman, who had sustained an injury and was stranded on a cliff near the Saint Elizabeth chapel in Ayios Ambrosios, Limassol, was brought to safety on Saturday lunchtime after a large-scale rescue operation was launched.

The rescue team included officers from the fire department, the police and special forces.

Fire services spokesman Andreas Kettis said the call for help was received at 6.25pm on Friday and the forces immediately mobilised to save the foreign woman.

He said she had suffered a lower leg injury and was stranded on a cliff with thick wild vegetation.

The rescue saw her carried on a stretcher to an agricultural road, where an ambulance was waiting to take her to Limassol general hospital.
