Regan Smith set another 100m backstroke world record on Friday at the World Aquatics Swimming World Cup in Incheon, South Korea.
The 22-year-old Smith set the short course mark with a time of 54.41 seconds, besting the record time of 54.56 seconds held by Kaylee McKeown of Australia.

In June, Smith broke McKeown’s world record in the 100m backstroke in the 50-meter Olympic Trials pool with a time of 57.13.
Short course meets are held in pools 25 meters in length.
Smith is an eight-time Olympic medalist with two gold medals, five silvers and one bronze. She’s also a five-time World Champion in the 100m and 200m backstroke, along with the 4x100m medley.
It was the second straight day an American broke a swimming world record. On Thursday, Katie Douglass set the short course 200m breaststroke record with a time of 2:14.16, besting the mark set by fellow American Rebecca Soni in 2009.
It’s the fourth world record for Douglass, who also owns the top times in the long course 50m freestyle and 200m breaststroke and the short course 200m individual medley.
