Reem Hospital Abu Dhabi opens the International Medical Forum for Neurology and Spine

The International Neurology and Spine Medical Forum kicked off today at Rosewood Hotel Abu Dhabi, with experts from around the world attending to discuss a wide range of topics and key challenges in this field.

The conference, sponsored by Reem Hospital Abu Dhabi, organized a scientific program that included key topics in neurology and spine care, in addition to panel discussions with prominent international and regional speakers. The rich scientific program aims to inform doctors and medical professionals about the latest research and rapid developments in the field of neurology and spine.

Participating physicians discussed the latest studies related to neurology and spine surgery, in addition to in-depth discussions with leading international experts to exchange experiences, enhance knowledge and learn from international experiences.

Mr. Zaid Al Siksik, Chairman of Reem Hospital, said: “We are proud to host this international symposium on neurology and spine diseases at Reem Hospital, which reinforces our pioneering role in developing expertise and knowledge among the most prominent experts and specialists in this field. Mr. Clancy Po, CEO of Reem Hospital, added: “We have prepared this forum to ensure the participation of the most prominent experts in the field, to ensure the provision of a program rich in deep insights into the latest innovations and updates, with the aim of achieving the best outcomes for patients.”

Dr. Issam Khoury, Consultant Neurosurgeon and Head of Department at Reem Hospital, also gave a presentation on Percutaneous Laser Disc Lipolysis (PLDD), a new surgical technique for back pain relief. Dr. Khoury explained how this laser procedure can treat these conditions with extreme precision, showcasing the innovative aspects of this technique.

In turn, Dr. Wael Shaaban, Neurosurgeon and Spine Specialist, gave a detailed presentation on the uses of Augmented Reality (AR) in spine surgery, giving a glimpse into the future of medicine. He pointed out that surgeons use AR glasses to perform the most complex spine surgeries, a technology that Reem Hospital implemented as the first medical institution in the UAE and the Middle East and North Africa region.

Dr. Dina Saleh, Consultant Pediatric Neurologist and Head of Department at Reem Hospital, also gave a presentation on the role of Botox injections in treating children with cerebral palsy, reviewing a new approach that brings about a qualitative shift in the treatment of this group.

Dr. Amir Abdel Ghaffar, Consultant Neurologist, moderated a panel discussion on innovative treatments for dementia, reviewing the latest developments in the field and explaining how these new strategies can improve patient care.

For his part, Dr. Rudy Al-Nawar, Consultant Neurologist, addressed the topic of spinal cord anatomy, highlighting the significant impact of accurate anatomical knowledge on patient care and treatment outcomes.

Finally, Dr. Mohammed Rami Al-Ahmar gave a presentation on treatments and rehabilitation methods after spinal cord injury (SCI), stressing the importance of early targeted treatment in accelerating the recovery process.
