Essilor Luxottica said in a statement that it has “extended its partnership with Meta Platforms through a new long-term agreement that stipulates cooperation between the two parties until the next decade, to create several generations of smart glasses.”
In 2023, the two groups, which have been collaborating since 2019, launched the “Connected Glasses” collection.Ray Ban MetaPowered by artificial intelligence, its creators can make phone calls, take and share photos and videos, and listen to music or any streaming content.
“The incredible work we have done with Luxottica is a testament to our commitment to delivering the best possible value to our customers,” said Essilor Luxottica Chairman and CEO Francesco Milleri in the statement. “We have the opportunity to make Glasses the next major technology platform, while also embracing a fashion-forward aspect,” Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in the statement.
Over the summer, press articles touched on Meta’s plan to acquire a stake in the eyewear company.
“We were informed in good faith” of Meta (Facebook, Instagram) to acquire a stake in Essilor Luxottica, Francesco Milleri said during a conference on his company’s half-year results.
Essilor Luxottica plans to launch a new product in the United States later this year: a pair of glasses that includes a miniature hearing aid.
