Police cars and ambulances were pictured at the scene by the junction of Western Road, after being called to the accident at around 8pm.

Resident Andy Fraser witnessed the aftermath and said the road was taped off and shut all night.

“You weren’t allowed to walk to the Tesco Esso garage, which had also closed early,” he said.

“Forensics were at the scene. There were a couple of ambulances and maybe three or four police cars. I hope all involved are okay.”

Over the years Andy says he has witnessed a number of accidents along the busy stretch of road.

“One common cause is cars heading toward town, waiting to turn into Western Road,” he added.

“Other drivers are on autopilot and before they know it they have ploughed into the waiting car.

“It’s also a blind spot pulling out of Western Road and that has caused accidents too.”

A spokeswoman for the ambulance service said: “Crews assessed and treated one patient at the scene before taking them to Kings College Hospital for further medical treatment.”

Police have been contacted for more information.
