Penn State football team’s report card vs. Illinois

Penn State football team’s report card vs. Illinois

Quarterbacks

B: Drew Allar made some pretty throws and didn’t turn the ball over, but he lacked touch on a couple passes in the second quarter.

Running backs

A: Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen combined for 196 rushing yards and two touchdowns and looked like the best players on the field.

Receivers

B: Tight end Tyler Warren and wideout Harrison Wallace III had productive games, but they really weren’t asked to do much.

Offensive linemen

B: They were solid and wore down Illinois, despite losing veterans Sal Wormley and JB Nelson to injuries.

Defensive linemen

A: Abdul Carter and Zane Durant were absolutely dominant, but they need to cut down on the offside penalties.

Linebackers

B: The group had some lapses, but Kobe King and Tony Rojas were steady throughout the night.

Defensive backs

B: They had a slow start as a whole, but Jaylen Reed continued his terrific season and A.J. Harris made an interception that set up a TD.

Special teams

C: Sander Sahaydak’s two missed field goals prompted Penn State to pass on another attempt and go for it on fourth down.

Coaches

B: Offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki was again creative, and defensive coordinator Tom Allen’s crew shut down Illinois in the second half.
