Pedestrian hit, killed by Guilford County Sheriff's Office vehicle after stepping into Greensboro road, police say

GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — One person was killed in a crash involving a pedestrian and a Guilford County Sheriff’s Office vehicle Wednesday evening, Greensboro police say.

According to a news release, at around 5:07 p.m., Greensboro police responded to a crash involving a pedestrian on U.S. 29 North near McKnight Mill Road.

James Owens, 58, of Greensboro, allegedly stepped out in front of a 2011 Ford Edge that was registered to the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office.

Owens died at the scene.

GPD’s Crash Reconstruction Unit is conducting an ongoing investigation.
