Passenger traffic at Cyprus’ Larnaca and Paphos airports rose by 7.14 per cent in October 2024 compared to the same month in 2023, according to the Transport Ministry.
This increase supports projections that 2024 will be a record-breaking year for Cypriot airports, with passenger numbers expected to exceed 12 million.
Despite heightened geopolitical tensions, passenger traffic for the January–October period reached unprecedented levels, marking a 5.3 per cent increase over the same period last year, the ministry reported.
In October alone, Larnaca airport saw an 8.8 per cent rise in passenger volume from 2023, with nearly 1 million passengers passing through (957,625).
Meanwhile, Paphos airport recorded a total of 380,440 passengers, a 3.2 per cent year-on-year increase, achieving its highest October traffic levels to date.
The primary markets for Cyprus’ airports included the United Kingdom, Greece, Israel, Poland, and Germany.
These markets have contributed to a 10.54 per cent rise in flights compared to 2023, totalling 10,390 flights.
The ministry also said that the annual forecast for passenger numbers has been revised upwards.
After the revision, 2024 is expected to mark an all-time high for Larnaca and Paphos airports, exceeding the anticipated 12 million passengers.
