Paphos secured the silver medal for the quality of its coast from among 100 green tourism destinations at the European Quality Coast Awards, the regional tourism board said on Wednesday.
Etap said after a long series of assessments, Paphos was awarded the medal and secured itself a place in the catalogue of the 100 Greenest Tourism Destinations in the World for the period 2024-26.
In this way Paphos will become more well known for its “unmatched beauty, for its picturesque beaches and the rich and rare vegetation of the Akamas”.
The criteria for the choice, Etap said, are clean water, biodiversity, the environment, social economic parameters, cultural heritage, absence of atmospheric pollution, noise and the quality of the tourist experience.
The region of Paphos, it said, “is well known around the world for its green nature, and its crystal clear seas”.
Etap said that from 2013 to 2023 Paphos has been recognised by the Quality Coast body and has been included in its top destinations as clean, green and in touch with nature.
The award also recognises that Paphos has worked methodically to make a difference and has adopted policies to ensure its viability.
The reward, Etap concluded, reflects Paphos’ outlook of a “superior tourist destination, which offers the visitor a wide range of experiences and contributes to the sustainability of the area in respect of the environment and cultural heritage”.
