The Paphos municipality’s technical projects committee aims to make Paphos the top city for quality of life, according to its president Philippos Philippou.
Speaking to the Cyprus News Agency (CNA) on Monday, Philippou said that the municipality is set to upgrade the living standards for people in Paphos “through practical efforts”.
He explained that the committee makes recommendations on urban planning, public and infrastructure works, development, beautification projects, and the monitoring of project execution, budget, and quality.
The committee also oversees road construction and maintenance, parking facilities, pavements, and other infrastructure developments, along with municipal building construction, improvements, and maintenance. Moreover, it handles traffic management, road lighting, archaeological sites, monuments, tourism infrastructure, and the design of playgrounds.
“We have developed mechanisms to maintain both the appearance and functionality of what we create in Paphos, adding durability and sustainability over time,” Philippou said.
He added that several projects have been completed in recent years, enhancing the city and residents’ quality of life.
“Our concern is to ensure that these projects are adequately maintained and enriched for current and future generations to enjoy.”
Looking forward, Philippou highlighted ongoing plans for further projects, including road network improvements, transport initiatives, and measures to address traffic issues. He also mentioned environmental and green development projects, sidewalks, parks, social policy initiatives, housing, accessibility projects, and other social infrastructure.
Among the recent projects were upgrades to urban equipment and infrastructure in the Paphos harbour area, the Park of Colours, and improvements along Ellados, Griva Digeni, and Neofytou Nikolaidi avenues.
Other initiatives included renovations on Fellachoglou street, the 1821 Greek Revolution bicentennial monument, water management systems, a university building for TEPAK, and the western coastal pedestrian pathway from the Paphos castle to Chloraka.
Additional projects include two linear parks, a new cemetery in Anavargos, student housing, the development of public squares, parks, and energy upgrades for municipal buildings.
